Episode 4: What Is Takarazuka — The Revue, It’s History, and Fandom

This episode is a rambling attempt at introducing the Takarazuka Revue to those who might not know much about it yet. We hope to do more in-depth episodes on some of these topics in the future, and so we would love to hear from our listeners about what they might want to know more about, or anything we might have said that was confusing. Definitely drop any questions you’d like in the comments below!

  1. Toujitsuken (“same day tickets”) correction: Tickets generally start selling at 9:30 at the Takarazuka Grand Theater and 10:00 at the Tokyo Takarazuka Theater.

  2. Wow…
I am very…very impressed, and enjoyed soooooo much listening to what you guys talked about.
Keep on good work, and look forward to the next one.

  3. Don’t worry about the length, it was fun to listen to, especially the part about the fandom and fanclubs. Playing the sumire no hana song at the beginning was exactly how I’d imagine a Takarazuka fan podcast should start.

I do have a question. What was the rationale for having Shin Senka or New Senka back in 2000?

    1. Thanks for letting us know what you thought about the length! And for your questions! We’ll try our best to answer in our upcoming Q&A ep! ๐Ÿ˜€

  4. aaaah, guys this episode was so good. <3 I especially loved the fan club stuff and the drunk salaryman story XDD (drunk salarymen are my people.)

  5. you guys are the best! You guys are my Zuka Senpai!!!
Just shared this link at the Facebook page with more than 600 Japanese (mostly japanses) zuka fans.

    1. Hi Naomi! Thank you! That is so strange; I wonder when the file got overwritten like that? It should be the correct file once more. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. I really enjoyed this one! I wouldn’t worry about the length because it’s easy to listen in smaller parts if necessary. Thanks for making my sewing time more fun ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. I was worried when you started in on a lot of the rules of fan culture and made it sound so scary ๐Ÿ˜‰ So thanks for talking about the perks too! Also, that Les Mis flash mob was EPIC *____*

  8. Ohmygosh there was SO MUCH in this episode. A lot of things that reminded me of my own experiences but also some stuff that I didn’t know.
Gosh, how much I miss being in a fanclub, even if it’s death to my knees.

The biggest Ochakai I ever was at was Mizu’s Elisabeth one. I think ot was something between 1300 and 1400 people, but she still did the handshaking. And I felt so bad for her, because just that took easily one and a half hour.

Thank you for being awesome, guys!
