  1. Kitty-chan, I am with you, I love dance battles! One of my dance friends and I actually tried to choreograph one once (to Gundam Wing music… I should probably not be admitting this on the internet =P). It is *hard* because you are dealing with so much inherent cheese, so I love seeing what Zuka does with them!

Actually, that whole battle scene is really interesting logistically. I think maybe what they were going for with the 3D battle projections was a call back to the anime where their read out screens were always some sort of grid with opposing white and orange/red markers? They probably could not have had anything much more visually complicated than that as, aside from being extremely expensive, it would have detracted visually from and made it difficult to light the rest of the company onstage. A dark background with clear bright subjects was fortunately completely ideal, but you can see even so that it is fairly dark and the spots are pretty tight, which is also due to full stage star projections giving the impression of being mid space. All in all very cool and always looks like so much fun!

  2. Hi, really interesting podcast! I’m happy you talked about two of my absolute favorite shows, El Halcon and Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu.

But could you consider adding timestamp information somewhere to the post, for future episodes? It was frustrating trying to skip the Chicago-bit to come to the parts I was more interested in

    1. Absolutely! I actually did timestap the episode before this one, since it was so long, but no one seemed to care either way, so I decided it wasn’t worth the extra time. I’ll start doing that from now on.

      Thanks for your comment! 🙂

  3. Ah~ I’m so sad, the link to that Atelier fanart site doesn’t work anymore ;____; I guess they closed down in January 2017.

I watched El Halcon at some point with my wife, and compared to when I watched it in 2007/08 and everyone was excited and willing to gloss over some of the more questionable parts… As she and I like to say, “feminism ruins everything”. ^_^;; We were too grossed out by Tyrian’s treatment of women to enjoy his complex character. Maybe someday, if someone translates it, we can get the full picture…

On the other hand, you all talking about Galactic Heroes made me want to watch it again! I think I streamed it with someone back in the day… Despite its failings, it sounds like there are a lot of interesting characters played by people I love, so I’ll have to give it another go 😉

Now on to part 2! <3
